BEFORE YOU GO

Visas and documents, money and banking, housing, the job market, healthcare, shipping, schools. The research that has to happen while you are still at home, and the questions most people only think to ask once it is too late.

YOUR FIRST 90 DAYS

Immigration records, a social security number, somewhere to live, a bank account, health insurance, a driving licence. The admin nobody warns you takes this long, in the order that actually works.

YOUR FIRST TWO YEARS

Credit, career, professional networks, community and belonging. The part where America either starts to feel like home or it does not, and the one nobody prepares you for at all.

The hardest part of moving countries isn’t the paperwork. It’s everything the paperwork doesn’t touch. Where you live, how you earn, who you become in a place that doesn’t know you yet, and how long it takes to feel like yourself again.

I’ve spent my career in sales, working with global enterprise organisations and household name brands, so complicated processes and long timelines are familiar ground. I moved from the UK to America in 2025 and I completely underestimated the whole process.

I had plenty of questions before I came, but some of the most important ones were the questions I didn’t know I needed to ask. Beyond First is where I share the honest perspective, practical guidance and lived experience I wish I’d had.
